Frequently Asked Questions

To participate you will need to register using this link:  http://innovationchallenge.agendamanagers.ca/

The deadline for registering is October 4th, 2023 and the challenge is open to students enrolled and attending a post-secondary institution in Nova Scotia.

Check-in will be set up on the 2nd floor of the Dalhousie Student Union building at 6136 University Avenue on Friday and Saturday.

No, each student is responsible for their own transportation to and from the event, as well as parking. Consider giving yourself ample time to arrive as parking in the downtown core can be hard to come by. No over-night accommodation will be provided.

We’ll be placing participants, along with anyone you may have registered with, in teams of up to 6. If your team consists of at least 3 participants, that team can continue with the challenge. If your group drops beneath 3, we will find a new group to place you in.

Please let us know as soon as possible so we can rearrange for your team if needed.

Please bring a valid student ID, water bottle, snacks, your laptop, phone and a positive attitude!

There will be a networking breakfast on Saturday morning, as well as a dinner and awards ceremony on Saturday night where food will be provided. There is no dinner provided Friday night and no lunch provided on Saturday, although there will be plenty of healthy snacks available both days.

We encourage business casual for the presentations and the awards dinner, however please dress comfortably for working sessions.

For concerns around where to go and what time things take place, there will be volunteers all around campus in grey Halifax Innovation Challenge t-shirts ready to help out. For guidance with designing your solutions and presentations, there will be many professional mentors from across industries, including RBC, who will be able to assist during the work periods.

You’ll be notified in the Welcome Package sent out on October 11th.

You will find out during the opening ceremony starting at 6.30pm AST on October 13th.

You would have selected a preference for a problem statement during registration, we cannot guarantee you will be assigned that problem statement

Problem statements will be available to all participants after the opening ceremonies at 6:30pm AST on October 13th.  You are required to register for the event after 5.30pm AST on October 13th and we encourage you to join the opening ceremonies as problem statements will be shared in detail at this time. Problem statements will also be available on this website after 6:30pm AST.

Yes, each team member will win a portion of the overall prize. For example, the grand prize this year is $1200, so if the winning team has 6 members, they will each walk away with $200.

In the very unlikely event the Challenge is cancelled, it will not be rescheduled. A member of our team will reach out to all participants to let them know as soon as we are able to.
